Man nabbed for holdup at Eglinton and Laird

A man is in custody accused of at least two bank robberies including the Scotiabank branch at Eglinton Ave E and Laird December 23.. The robber gained the named of the Mod Bandit. He was apparently arrested Monday without incident after a tip from the public. The two robberies were at a CIBC branch at 3324 Keele St. on January 6, 2012 and the Scotiabank at 880 Eglinton Ave. E. on December 23, 2011 In the CIBC robbery, a bandit claimed he was armed with a gun before demanding cash from a teller. In the Scotiabank holdup a man asked a bank employee if he could deposit money into his sister’s account. The robber reached into a knapsack and pulled out a note which demanded cash and said he had a gun.  Yonas Tecle, 29, of Toronto, is charged with two counts of robbery.
